**The EI Gap (May 2026)** - Analysis of 90 hospitality job ads across London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham found zero emotional intelligence criteria across all ads. "Passion for hospitality" appeared in 89% of ads despite being unverifiable and untestable. Not one ad asked whether a candidate can read a guest's emotional state. The finding was consistent across all four cities, indicating a national systemic gap between what the industry claims to value and what it actually hires for.
