From the Floor to
Three Continents
IntuitiveStay was not only built from a gap in the market. It was built from frustration that had been building for two decades.
I started in hospitality in the UK and worked my way across New Zealand, Hong Kong, Australia and Thailand. Every level, every type of property. I have carried plates, run kitchens, led front-of-house teams, sat in GM meetings and written performance reviews.
I have also watched the same problem play out everywhere I went: the people who make hospitality work are invisible until something goes wrong.
The breaking point was in Thailand. I was General Manager at a 212-bed hostel where reviews were being manufactured. A staff member would physically take phones from guests to write reviews on behalf of the business. I raised it. I raised multiple issues. I was told nothing would change. Then I was fired, despite over performing above every metric they measured me on. I had made it clear how much I needed that job. I relied on it for my visa. None of it mattered.
The big chains have HR departments to protect the business, not the people. I had seen this pattern before. Thailand just made it impossible to ignore.
After losing that job I had time and nowhere to be. I had always liked building websites but I had never built anything that meant something. IntuitiveStay started then.
Not as a business plan, as an answer to something that had bothered me for twenty years.
